Read an heart wrenching article. An article in National Geographic on how mothers chop off the limbs of their children so as to beg on the streets. How siblings have been torn apart in China to be sold.
I talked to mummy and daddy too. They tell me about how close they were to being sold away.
I see strength in people that may not be popular. May not be the most successful. May not be a Scholar. May not be loud. May not be outspoken. May not be beautiful. May not be intelligent. May not have the chance to study abroad. May not come from a good family. May not be as fortunate to study in the most prestigious schools. They may not be good at sports. They may not be good with words. They may not have a witty sense of humour.
And the strength, love and warmth I see in these people impress me so much more than the listed attributes above. I used to be so impressed with people who are sociable, pretty, smart, outspoken, witty and talented. Now, you can't impress me with just those.
Contentment is not the fulfillment of what you want, it is the realization of how much you already have. When the door of happiness closes, another opens, but often times we look so long at the closed door that we don't see the one which has been opened for us. It's true that we don't know what we've got until we lose it, but it's also true that we don't know what we've been missing until it arrives. The happiest of people don't necessarily have the best of everything; they just make the most of everything that comes along their way. The brightest future will always be based on a forgotten past, you can't go on well in life until you let go of your past failures and heartaches.
